How can I track my tax refund after filing?

SOLVEDBy Credit KarmaUpdated June 08, 2023

If you opened a new Intuit Credit Karma account or linked an existing one when filing your taxes with TurboTax, and you opted into data sharing when you filed, you can track your federal refund on Credit Karma. Your refund tracker will appear shortly after you file your federal tax return. You can log in to your Credit Karma account to check it out.

Go to this section in Credit Karma: Refund Tracker

The IRS issues more than 9 out of 10 refunds in less than 21 days, though it’s possible your tax return may require additional review and take longer to process. Keep an eye on your refund tracker to see the status of your federal tax return.

When will I receive my federal tax refund?

The IRS issues most refunds within 21 days of accepting your return. It’s possible your refund may take longer. Once the IRS indicates they have issued your refund, it may take some time for you to receive the funds.

If you elected to receive your federal refund in your Credit Karma Money™ Spend account,* funds are generally available up to five days early.**

Learn more about when to expect your refund from the IRS Tax Season Refund Frequently Asked Questions.

Why did I receive part of my refund in one of my accounts already, but not the other?

Different financial institutions may have different practices on the availability of directly deposited funds. If you are already seeing a portion of your tax refund in one of your accounts, the rest of your refund should arrive soon. Contact your financial institution if you have questions.

My refund is a different amount than I expected.

If the IRS has adjusted your refund amount, you will receive a notice at the mailing address you provided on your tax return.

**To be eligible, you don't need to file your taxes with a particular tax prep service. However, you will not be eligible if you choose to pay your tax preparation fee using your federal tax refund or choose to take a Refund Advance loan. 5-day early program may change or discontinue at any time. Up to 5 days early access to your federal tax refund is compared to standard tax refund electronic deposit and is dependent on and subject to IRS submitting refund information to the bank before release date. IRS may not submit refund information early.
